RF magnetron-sputter deposited ZnS:TbOF thin film electroluminescent (EL) phosphors 1mm ± 10% thick were codoped with Ce and the EL performance tested with 60Hz trapezoidal voltage pulses. The B40 of Ce codoped ZnS:TbOF films annealed at 500°C for 60 minutes was 144 cd/m@super 2@ compared to 86 cd/m@super 2@ for undoped ZnS:TbOF films. Further analysis using XRD, SEM and AFM showed no changes in crystallinity or surface morphology and SIMS analysis showed the Ce concentration to be far below Tb concentration. Electrical Q-V, C-V and L-V measurements indicate that there are changes in the electron transport suggesting that the increase due to Ce codoping of ZnS:TbOF film is likely due to modified space charge in the ZnS:TbOF ilm.
