In the global thin film coatings market, the growing demand is directly correlated to the reduction in production cost. All technologies require more efficient production coating systems. Advances in High-Volume manufacturing equipment contribute to lowering Capex and Opex for thin film coatings. High utilization of materials, advanced process control, and homogeneity of coatings are key, but there are challenges in achieving necessary uniformity while maximizing coating substrate size and throughput while minimizing the footprint. VON ARDENNE develops and manufactures industrial equipment for vacuum coatings on materials such as glass, wafers, metal strip and polymer films. These coatings can be between one nanometer and a few micrometers thin, depending on the application. Our customers use these materials to make high-quality products such as architectural glass, displays for smartphones and touch screens, solar modules and heat protection foil for automotive glass. VON ARDENNE was founded in 1991 as a spin-off of the Manfred von Ardenne Research Institute in Dresden. The technological principles and components which are vital to our current success had been developed and steadily improved by this institute since 1955. This presentation provides insight into thin film deposition equipment for existing and emerging technologies where tremendous cost pressure must be addressed.
