AVS Symposia Locations and Chairs

The 6th symposium in 1959 was the first designated as the National Symposium; the name has been applied retroactively to the earlier symposia. The term was used through 1997.

Since 1998, it has been the International Symposium but the numbering system is continuous; e.g. it was the 44th National Symposium in 1997 and the 45th International Symposium in 1998.

*Everett Brown was the Symposium Arrangements Chair for the first Symposium but he died in 1954 and was replaced by Lyle Backer

+George Murphy resigned at the end of 1954 and John Durant was Arrangements Chair for the 1955 symposium.
