Prairie, Illinois, ANL-NAL Chapter and Midwest Section

The Prairie Chapter has a long connection, through the Illinois and ANL-NAL Chapters, to the Midwest Section, which was formed in 1963. The Chapter now serves members in the Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin area. The Midwest section was formed in 1963. A Great Lakes Chapter of the Section was formed in 1968. At a business meeting during its 8th Annual Symposium in 1970, the Great Lakes Chapter of the Midwest Section became the Great Lakes Section which included two chapters; Central Indiana & ANL-NAL (Chicago Metropolitan). In 1970, the AVS Board approved the change in status to the Great Lakes Section and the  formation of both a Central Indiana and ANL-NAL (Metropolitan Chicago) Chapter within the Midwest Section, with all Midwest Section Chapters within the boundary of the Great Lakes Section becoming Chapters of the Great Lakes Section from the date of the Midwest Section’s annual business meeting on May 21, 1970.

In February 1971, the Sections were dissolved and sections and chapters both became chapters within a Regional Administrative Group (RAG). The Great Lakes RAG covered Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan , so that the ANL-NAL Chapter was within this RAG.  In 1983 , the name was changed to the  Illinois Chapter.  Although the Wisconsin Chapter was not officially dissolved until 2000, it was not operational during the 1990s and the Illinois Chapter was serving many of the members in the southern area of the Wisconsin Chapter territory. To reflect this, the Illinois Chapter was renamed the Prairie Chapter in 1998. When the Wisconsin Chapter was dissolved in 2000, the members were assigned to either the Minnesota or Prairie Chapters.

Information on the current activities of the Chapter are available on the Chapter Web page which is accessed through the AVS Web site.
