On April 16-18, 1975, a 2 1/2 day course “Basic Vacuum technology for scientists, engineers and technicians”, and two 1-day courses “Surface Analysis” and “UHV-Leak Detection” were held at the Univ. of Maryland.

On May 12-14, 1980 a “Basic Vacuum Technology” course was given by Howard Patton at the  Ramada Inn, Lanham, MD; the fee was $240.

Seventeen courses were given on May 11-15, 1981, at the Marriott Twin Bridges, Arlington; they were almost fully subscribed.

A joint meeting with North Carolina section of MRS was held on November 8 at Chapel Hill, NC.

A symposium on “Extreme High Vacuum & Surface Conditioning” was held in Newport News, VA, June 5-7, 2000.

On June 6-8, 2001 in Newport News, a “Materials Processing Workshop” was part of the chapter’s spring meeting.

An “International Workshop on Hydrogen in Materials and Vacuum Systems” was held on November 11-13, 2002 at Jefferson Lab, as part of the chapter’s annual meeting; the registration fee was $200.
