Nancy joined the AVS in 1968 and proceeded to add a human dimension to all of her contacts with the ruling junta and with the general membership.  Her office was always too small, and material appeared to fill up most of the space.  But she could always find the needed document, and kept most of us volunteers on the required schedule.  For many years the membership records were kept, or rather miskept, on the AIP computer.  Nancy was the only hope of correcting the numerous errors.  She retired in 1989 and was made an honorary member of the society.
