William Brunner was the first AVS member to teach a National short course. This was at the Seattle meeting in 1969. The Instrument Society of America was partially involved in the arrangements. The first series of National short courses totally run by the AVS Education Committee took place at the Washington D.C. meeting, in 1970. Bill was continuously involved in teaching these courses until 1997.
