Polycrystalline samples of (Y1-xCax)CrO3 with 0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.15 were synthesized by combustion method. The samples were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Results of refinement of Rietveld shows that the cell volume decrease occurs through the change from Cr(III) to Cr(IV) as a result of the charge compensation of the Ca doping. XPS was used to investigate the binding energies of the Y 3d, Cr 2p, Ca 2p, and O 1s core level and Y 4d, Cr, 3d Ca 3d and O 2s contributions of valence band. The valence band measurement is consistent with the calculations of the band structure calculated near the Fermi level.
