Wednesday, October 17, 2007:
Pioneer Square & Museum Tour

(10
:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

Just 25 miles east of Seattle, you will discover one of Washington’s most popular scenic attractions, Snoqualmie Falls. Here, the Snoqualmie River cascades 270 feet through a spectacular rock gorge into a sixty-five foot deep pool. On top of the falls sits the romantic Salish Lodge & Spa famously used to film the quirky TV hit "Twin Peaks."

After Snoqualmie Falls, you will enjoy a scenic drive to the quaint town of Snohomish. This small community, formerly an active lumber town, is filled with rolling hills, rivers and mountain sights. Most of the older buildings in Snohomish date from the 1870s and 1880s when steamboats from Puget Sound ventured far upriver carrying passengers and freight. Also known as the "Antique Capital of the Northwest," Snohomish has a wonderful selection of antique shops with over 450 dealers.  There will be time to enjoy lunch at your leisure.

The tour will continue to the town of Woodinville where you will experience a wine tour and tasting at Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery. Situated on the same latitude as the French wine country, Washington State has a growing wine industry that is winning prestigious awards throughout the world. Located on 87 acres of arboretum-like grounds, Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest of Washington's  almost 500 wineries. After the tour, you  will have time to explore the grounds and visit Chateau Ste. Michelle’s extensive wine and accessory shop before traveling back to Seattle.

Tuesday, October 16, 2007:
Ivar’s Original Acres of Clams
(6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.)

In the evening, there will be an opportunity to network with your AVS friends and colleagues over dinner on the waterfront.  We have a block booking for 40 people at Ivar’s Original Acres of Clams, a Seattle tradition since 1938. The city's colorful waterfront at Pier 54 provides a scenic backdrop for this attractive yet informal restaurant where you'll dine on Ivar's traditional favorites and other delicious Northwest seafood as ferryboats glide by the window. The menu offers a three-course dinner with a choice of seafood or vegetarian entrée served with dessert and two glasses of wine. http://www.ivars.net

Hours:             6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Price:

         $65.00 each per guest

We’ll start the day with an unusual underground tour of the city, roaming the subterranean passages that were the main roadways and first-floor storefronts of old downtown Seattle, before the great fire of 1889. Be prepared for six flights of stairs, uneven terrain and spotty lighting—and leave your spike heel shoes at home! http://www.undergroundtour.com/

When we come back to the present day, we’ll be in historic Pioneer Square. Site of Seattle’s first permanent settlement, Pioneer Square features over 20 city blocks of Victorian Romanesque architecture, fine art galleries, shops, and delightful places for coffee and lunch. http://www.pioneersquare.org/highlights.htm

In the afternoon, docents will lead us on tours of the Seattle Art Museum, newly re-opened after an extensive renovation and expansion, and the Asian Art Museum.  In addition to the permanent collections, we will see an exhibition arranged in collaboration with Kobe City Museum exploring Western influences on Japanese art and artists from the 16th – 19th century.
