American
Institute of Physics Industrial Physics Forum and Reception
Sunday, November 12 - Tuesday, November 14, 2006
The American Institute of Physics (AIP) Industrial Physics Forum (IPF) is a
“meeting of the minds” in physics. AIP’s Corporate Associates bring leaders
from across the field into the mix of participants. Industry executives,
research managers, academics, and science policy decision makers convene
annually to keep current on research and policy developments affecting the
physical sciences community. The IPF is designed to foster the sharing of
know-ledge and collaboration, and is an opportunity to exchange ideas with
other R&D leaders facing similar research and business challenges.
This year the IPF will be held in conjunction with the AVS International
Symposium to provide AVS attendees an opportunity to participate and to
leverage the benefits of AVS’ rich technical program and diverse membership.
All IPF sessions feature world renowned leaders from industry and academia.
The theme of the 2006 IPF is “Nanotechnology in Society and Manufacturing”
and the sessions on Monday and Tuesday morning have been integrated into the
Nano-Manufacturing Topical Conference that AVS is highlighting at its 2006
International Symposium.
There will be a welcoming reception for Industrial Physics Forum and AVS
Symposium registrants at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 12th at the
Renaissance Parc 55 Hotel. Please join us!
(Attendance will be limited to the first 400 people.)
Nanotechnology is projected to contribute over $1T in products to the
world’s economy in less than ten years. How real is the projection and what
might be the consequences? The IPF Examples of Nanotechnology session will
delve into new technologies that have already been (or will shortly be)
enabled through the use of nanostructures. Electronic devices are already at
the nanometer size scale; an IPF session on Beyond CMOS will explore needs
and options that might extend the recent decades of rapid improvements in
information technology devices. The IPF Nanotechnology and Society Session
will explore environmental, safety, health and economic issues from
industrial and regulatory perspectives. Additional topical conference
sessions will explore the manufacture of quality nanosized building blocks,
their (directed) assembly into devices/systems (bottom up), processing of
patterned surfaces (top down), and the measurement/control/standards needed
for manufacturing. Speakers are listed in the Nano-Manufacturing Topical
Conference program.
On Tuesday afternoon, the IPF will feature its perennially popular session
on the Frontiers in Physics, addressing the most exciting research going on
today, regardless of field.
