AVS 55th International Symposium
From Nano to Astronomical: The Science & Technology of Materials, Interfaces, & Processing

Call for Papers
E-mail/Web Abstract
Deadline: May 14, 2008

The AVS is currently accepting abstract submissions for presentation at our 55th International Symposium, October 19-24, 2008, in Boston, MA. We encourage you to check out the exciting sessions we have planned and submit your abstract today.

The AVS is the place for multidisciplinary, multi-scale work in the areas of the science and technology of materials, interfaces, and processing.

Here are just a few examples:

We have had a strong, leading presence in the nano arena (our Nanoscale Science and Technology Division was established in 1992) and this year's program continues on that tradition. Sessions with significant nano content have been programmed by nearly every Division, as well as in several topical conferences and crosscutting focus topics.

This year's program reaches up through galactic proportions with our collaboration in the 50th Industrial Physics Forum (IPF), which will be co-located with our symposium. This year's theme is “Digital Imaging”: Astronomical Imaging, Materials Imaging, Bio-Imaging and Marine/Terrestrial Imaging. The IPF is being co-sponsored by the AVS, American Astronomical Society (AAS), the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Optical Society of America (OSA), and AIP Corporate Associates.

To highlight our multidisciplinary content, four topics that cross the boundaries of several Divisions and Technical Groups have been programmed by committees whose members represent the Divisions and Technical Groups interested in these topics. Our crosscutting focus topics include: Biological, Organic, and Soft Materials; Energy; Nanomanufacturing; and Tribology. Sessions in these focus areas are listed under the appropriate Divisions and Groups, as well as under the Focus Topic heading.

We have also included four topical conferences in our program this year. They include: BioMEMS, Graphene; In Situ Microscopy and Spectroscopy: Interfacial and Nanoscale Science; and Synchrotron-based Spectroscopy and Spectro-microscopy.

As you can see, our program is full of great topics, and we hope you put the 55th AVS International Symposium on your “must attend” list. We look forward to receiving your abstract and meeting you in Boston!
