Biomaterials Interfaces Division and Technical Group

The Biomaterials Interfaces Technical Group was approved by the Board at the end of 1995,  with Jay Hickman as Chair. The formation of the Group was even endorsed by the Biomaterials Society!

In 1999, the Chair, Jay Hickman, reviewed the group’s accomplishments which included a sustained program over four years with 120 abstracts submitted for the Symposium in 1999, and a plenary session with three speakers, one of whom was a Nobel Prizewinner. The Technical Group was therefore approved for another three years. With the continued growth of interest, in 2002, the Board approved the conversion of the Group to the Biomaterials Interfaces Division (BID). It was fitting that Buddy Ratner received the 2002 Medard W Welch Award for his work in the topics of interest to the Division.
