NAMBE 2010 will be held at the Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center located in Breckenridge, Colorado from September 26-29, 2010.

The 27th North American Conference on Molecular Beam Epitaxy (NAMBE 2010) is the premier forum for scientific and technological exchange among researchers investigating all types of materials growth using the MBE technique.

This conference showcases important results from fundamental research through technological applications through high-volume and low-cost production. Also featured are the presentations of the MBE Innovator Award, the NAMBE Young Investigator Award, and Best Student Paper awards. Plus there will be a Wednesday Rump Session.

In addition to a diverse technical program, vendors will exhibit the latest equipment available related to material growth and characterization. The exhibit will surround the coffee breaks and poster presentations, providing many opportunities for discussions between attendees and vendors.

Breckenridge is located in the heart of Summit County, Colorado's Playground! A map of the property may be found online at: www.beaverrun.com/en/trip-planning/location. Summer is spectacular. The climate is mild, the days are long and the resort is packed with activities to explore.

Breckenridge is a picturesque Victorian town in the Rocky Mountains settled about 150 years ago during Colorado’s gold mining boom.  In September the surrounding mountains and valleys, with late-summer wildflowers blooming, are excellent for all kinds of outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, tennis, golf, and nature photography.

Breckenridge is also known for its 180 shops and boutiques and more than 100 quality restaurants and microbreweries, all of which remain open well past the summer tourist season.  In September the average daily high temperature is about 18°C (65°F), but it will often reach as high as 25°C (77°F).  The average rainfall amounts to only about an inch for the entire month of September - usually in the form of a brief afternoon thundershower.  The typical weather pattern is sunshine during the day followed by cool, clear evenings that are ideal for stargazing.  The site is located near well-known Colorado mountain resorts and less than a day’s drive from the spectacular U.S. national parks of Central/Western Colorado and Eastern Utah, including Rocky Mountain, Black Canyon, Great Sand Dunes, Mesa Verde, Arches, and Canyonlands.

The Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center
Located at the base of Breckenridge Ski Resort’s Peak 9, this 500-plus-room property combines the services and amenities of a fine hotel with the spaciousness of a condominium, ideal for groups of all sizes and needs, any time of year.

Beaver Run offers a wide array of room types, from hotel rooms and deluxe studios to one- and two-bedroom suites.  Beaver Run Resort offers a variety of dining options from groceries and sandwiches to upscale gourmet offerings. There’s something for everyone!

Beaver Run also features children’s activities that are specially-designed to keep parents and kids as busy as they want to be, regardless of the season.  Beaver Run boasts two pools, a game room and video arcade, a 9-hole miniature golf course, and programs designed to keep the smallest guest entertained throughout their stay.

Beaver Run’s location is ideal for both winter and summer guests, offering ski-in/ski-out access during the winter months and the area’s miles of hiking and biking trails in the warmer months, all just a few blocks from Breckenridge’s famed Main Street. The Resort also offers a complimentary shuttle to and from the downtown area.

High Altitude Awareness
Coming to high altitude (8,000 feet+) can trigger Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) in visitors from low elevations. The first thing most people notice is a shortness of breath, especially when exercising. In addition, the heart is likely to beat faster and one may develop nausea, unusual tiredness, headache, or have difficulty sleeping. To prevent these symptoms:

  • Plan to arrive a day in advance of the conference so you have time to comfortably settle and never push the limits of your physical capabilities.
  • Increase your water or fluid intake 3-4 times normal consumption-avoiding alcohol and caffeine.
  • Limit salty foods and increase carbohydrate consumption.
