ICN+T 2008 will be held at the Keystone Resort and Conference Center located 1.5 hours from Denver, Colorado from July 20-25, 2008.

The 2008 International Conference on Nanoscience + Technology (ICN+T) will provide an international forum for discussion of the latest developments in nanoscale science and technology and recent advances in scanning probe microscopy and related techniques. The ICN+T represents the convergence of the former International Conference on Scanning Tunneling Microscopy/Spectroscopy and Related Techniques (STM) and Nano, which were first combined in Basel, Switzerland in 2006. (List of the former meeting sites.) This conference will cover a range of topics in nanoscale science and technology, addressing the interdisciplinary, international nature of this exciting and rapidly growing field. Topics to be covered include scanning probe microscopy/spectroscopy and related instrumentation, nanosystems, nanomechanics, nanomanipulation, nanomagnetism, nanooptics, nanowires, nanofluidics, nanobiotechnology, molecular electronics, quantum devices, and advances in materials and processing for nanotechnology and nanofabrication.

Leading scientists will give approximately 50 plenary and invited presentations on the latest developments in nanoscale science and technology. We expect 600-700 attendees from around the globe to present their latest research.

In addition to a diverse technical program, vendors will exhibit the latest equipment available for nanoscale measurement science and technology. The exhibit will surround the poster presentations, providing many opportunities for discussions between attendees and vendors.

We look forward to seeing you at ICN+T 2008 and welcoming you to the beautiful Keystone Resort and Conference Center in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We encourage participants to arrive a day or two early to enjoy the surrounding area while getting accustomed to the high altitude (above 2700 m).

HikingKeystone is a large mountain resort over seven miles long and several miles wide. An interactive map of the property may be found online at: http://resortmap.keystone.snow.com. Summer at Keystone is spectacular. The climate is mild, the days are long and the resort is packed with activities to explore. Attendees can experience a scenic gondola ride, hiking, 36 holes of mountain championship golf, a trail ride followed by a barn dance, biking on more than 40 miles of paved paths or mountain biking on more than 100 miles of trails or just lounging by one of the resorts 16 swimming pools.

In addition, there are over 30 restaurants and bars throughout the resort. And, there is a FREE shuttle that runs every 20 minutes. The Mountain Concierge can assist you with planning the recreational activities during your visit.

Special Event Reminders
The Welcome Reception will take place on Sunday, July 20, 2008, from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. on the Belvedere Terrace (on top of the Castle Peak Rooms in the Conference Center).

The Conference Banquet will take place on Thursday, July 24, 2008, from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at the Keystone Stables. This will be an authentic Barn Dance and BBQ with live music and dance instruction—complimentary shuttles available to the Keystone Stables.

High Altitude Awareness
Coming to high altitude (8,000 feet+) can trigger Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) in visitors from low elevations. The first thing most people notice is a shortness of breath, especially when exercising. In addition, the heart is likely to beat faster and one may develop nausea, unusual tiredness, headache, or have difficulty sleeping. To prevent these symptoms:

  • Plan to arrive a day in advance of the conference so you have time to comfortably settle and never push the limits of your physical capabilities.
  • Increase your water or fluid intake 3-4 times normal consumption-avoiding alcohol and caffeine.
  • Limit salty foods and increase carbohydrate consumption.
