Conference Overview
The International Conference on
Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films (ICMCTF) is
internationally recognized as the premier international
conference focused on thin-film deposition,
characterization, and advanced surface engineering. It
brings together scientists, engineers, and technologists
from academia, government laboratories, and industry,
thereby merging cutting-edge research with real-world
applications. The conference consistently draws more than
700 attendees each year within 32 oral technical sessions
and a well-attended poster session.
ICMCTF 2013, the 40th anniversary of this conference,
will be organized in seven concurrent
technical symposia
A through G and four topical symposia, addressing
experimental, theoretical, and manufacturing issues
associated with the development of new coating materials and
processes, and evolving approaches to scale-up for
commercial applications.
In addition to the technical program, the conference
features a two-day industrial
exhibition, which is open to the public, showcasing
the latest in equipment, materials and services used
for the deposition, monitoring, and characterization
of coatings and thin films. Short courses and Focused
Topic Sessions (FTS) will be offered throughout the
conference week.
Each year, the R.F. Bunshah Award Laureate and three
outstanding Graduate Student Award winners are celebrated
during a special convocation at the ICMCTF.
The Town and Country Resort Hotel and Convention Center,
located in sunny San Diego of Southern California, will be
the official conference venue, providing a relaxed
atmosphere for discussion and networking among the
attendees.

Conference Highlights
Technical Symposia
Contributed papers are solicited for 32 sessions,
within seven concurrent symposia A through G and
four special topical symposia, which span an
extensive collection of subjects. Abstracts will be
evaluated for their potential interest to the
conference attendees and on the quality of their
technical content. More than 80 invited speakers
with international recognition in their respective
fields will strengthen the program.

Plenary Speaker
The
conference opens with a Plenary Session on Monday at
8:00 a.m. in the Grand Exhibition Hall presented by
Professor Tobin Marks, Professor of Chemistry
and Materials Science and Engineering at
Northwestern University entitled, “Designer
Materials for Unconventional Electronics”.

Exhibits
An
extensive equipment exhibition of the premier
international companies is offered in conjunction
with the Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday, April
30 and May 1, 2013. The exhibition promotes technical
interchange of information on the science,
technology, and application of coatings, thin films,
and surface modification methods. Companies

The Exhibition is
introduced Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. by the
Keynote Speaker Francoise Massines, Directeur de

R.F. Bunshah Award & ICMCTF Lecture
The ASED division of AVS honors an individual
scientist or engineer for outstanding research and
technological innovation in the field of surface
engineering, coatings, thin films and related areas
of interest to ASED.
The award consists of a $1500 cash prize, an engraved statuette stating the nature of the award and an honorary lectureship at the ICMCTF conference. The laureate shall also receive up to six nights lodging at the Town & Country Hotel, travel support reimbursement up to $1500 and a complimentary meeting registration.
The Awards Convocation is held on Wednesday, late afternoon, with a reception following the Convocation and Honorary Lecture in the evening.

Graduate Student Awards
The ASED division of AVS has established the
Graduate Student Awards for excellence in scholarly
research. Students are judged on the quality of
their research, their oral presentation at ICMCTF
and individual discussions with the Awards
Committee. Three awards are chosen consisting of a
cash prize ($400, $300 and $250), a certificate,
complimentary meeting registration, up to six nights
lodging at the Town and Country Hotel and travel
support reimbursement up to $500. Detailed

Poster Session
The conference includes a well-attended poster
session on Thursday, May 2, 2013. Authors show a
detailed summary of their work. During the two hour
session, authors will be standing with their posted
materials to lead discussions and answer questions.

Conference Proceedings
Authors are encouraged to submit scientific papers
for the Conference Proceedings which will be
published as special issues of the Elsevier journals
Surface and Coatings Technology (SCT) and
Thin Solid Films (TSF). Manuscripts, prepared
according to the journals’ Guidelines for Authors,
should be submitted electronically and will be
subject to a strict scientific journal standards
peer review.
Accepted manuscripts will be published and posted on
the journals website for complimentary worldwide
access and retrieval in late December or early
January.
Continuing this year, ICMCTF has ensured a one year open-access of the Conference Proceedings in TSF and SCT on line. This will increase the articles’ world-wide visibility as well as the chances for citations. Anyone will be able to read and download the papers from the Journals’ web-sites (SCT and TSF). All attendees will be notified via email when the proceedings appear on-line.
As a courtesy the submission deadline has been extended to April 25, 2013

Conference Registration
PLEASE NOTE:
The Town
and Country Hotel provides technical meeting space in
proportion to the number of hotel sleeping rooms sold to
conference participants.
Therefore, the conference
registration fee structure is based on your
utilizing the Town and Country Hotel. The ICMCTF Conference
depends on your continued support.

Official Hotel Accommodations
The Town and Country Hotel is the official conference hotel.
A limited number of rooms will be held until Monday, April
8, 2013 for your convenience. Reservations must be made
directly with the hotel and should be done early to
guarantee your space. Mention that you are attending the ICMCTF meeting to receive the reduced conference rates. The
hotel requires a one night deposit via credit card to hold
your room.
