AVS: Science and Technology of Materials, Interfaces, and Processing

Message from the Chapter Chair

Welcome to our premier society for the Science and Technology of Materials, Interfaces and Processing.  Our New England Chapter which includes Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine has been active for over 40 years and now has more than 1200 members.  The AVS is an affiliated organization of the American Institute of Physics.   We started with vacuum pumps and instruments but now include a wide variety of disciplines and technologies.  We promote communication, the dissemination of knowledge, recommended practices, research, and education in the use of vacuum and other environments to develop new materials, process technology, devices and a better understanding of material properties for the benefit of humanity.

Some of our annual social and educational events include:

  • Sponsoring a local high school science teacher for a Vacuum Technology Workshop

  • Dinner Meetings in the Spring and Fall

  • Vendor Exhibition and Technical Symposium in June, and

  • Collaboration with related organizations.

Join our diverse group of interested and interesting people of all ages who continue to be excited about science and technology in New England and beyond. For more information please contact me,
