Special Events

AVS Post-Deadline Session:  The Surface Science Division will host an evening session for off-the-record discussion of post-deadline discoveries and controversial issues.  Submissions are welcome that address surfaces, interfaces, films, nanometer-scale phenomena, emerging technologies or that report promising technique innovations.  This is the forum to stimulate your colleagues with provocative hypotheses and preliminary results.  All Symposium participants are invited to attend this informal session, which will be accompanied by libations and munchies. Abstracts of approximately 2,500 characters are solicited for either (1) an individual 15 minute oral presentation, or (2) two coordinated 10 minute presentations by persons with opposing viewpoints of a controversial scientific issue.  Abstracts must be received electronically by Friday, August 31, 2007.  Notification of acceptance/rejection will be made soon thereafter.  Submit abstracts to: ma.henderson@pnl.gov (Michael Henderson, Ph: 509-376-2192).

Short Course Program:  A perennial strength of the AVS International Symposium is an intensive instructional program focused on topics related to Vacuum and Equipment Technology, Materials and Interface Characterization, and Materials Processing.  Full details for this program, which runs concurrent with the International Symposium, will be available at www.avs.org and in the Technical Program.  You may contact Heather Korff, AVS, 110 Yellowstone Dr., Suite 120, Chico, CA 95973, 530-896-0477, courses@avs.org, for additional information.

AVS Vendor Exhibit:  The Exhibit comprises an extensive display of tools, equipment, services and consulting for film deposition, surface and interface measurements and analysis, materials, chemicals, supplies, vacuum production and measurement, and related instrumentation for surface, interface and film measurements, as well as professional literature and publications. It will be held at the Annual Symposium from Tuesday morning until Thursday afternoon. New and returning Exhibitors are welcome.  Please contact exhibits@avs.org for additional information or to make recommendations for this year's AVS Exhibit.  You may also review our website www.avs.org, or contact us at 212-248-0200, ext. 229.

AVS Job Center: is an area of the exhibit hall set aside for job seekers to submit their resume and for companies to post job opportunities.  The purpose of the AVS Job Center is to connect job seekers with potential employers.  The goal is to facilitate contact and networking during the Conference.  The Center is available to all attendees and will be open from Monday-Thursday during Symposium week and interested participants will be asked to submit their resumes and job postings. Additional information will be available on the AVS website as the meeting approaches.

AVS Sponsorship Program:  AVS is a not-for-profit society which offers a myriad of services, programs and events related to science and technology in the fields of vacuum, materials, interfaces and processing to scientists and engineers from around the world. An extensive recognition and exposure program, which is active before and during the Symposium, is available to our Symposium Sponsors.  As a Symposium Sponsor, your logo will appear on the AVS website, in the Technical Program and Show Guide, and on signage and slide shows at the Symposium. The earlier you commit to AVS Symposium Sponsorship, the greater exposure you will receive. To learn more about Sponsorship opportunities, please contact Jeannette DeGennaro at 212-248-0200 ext. 229 or jeannette@avs.org.
