Energy
Science and Technology Topical Conference:
Energy underpins many, if not all, aspects of life. With the
ever-increasing demand for energy comes the concern over the
inevitable end of our carbon-based fossil fuels. Our “science and
technology” have provided solutions to many of our past “crises,”
however, will we be able to meet the expected incredible needs in
our constantly developing and expanding world? The topic of energy
certainly has close links with all activities of AVS - from
biological science to surface chemistry and catalysis to electronic
materials, and manufacturing challenges. There are immense R&D
opportunities for our science and technology community to continue
to provide solutions. This special seminar will focus on the issues
related to energy for sustainable mobility. Representatives from car
companies will discuss their concepts of vehicles that will
transport us in the future. They will address challenges in the
areas of system performance and manufacturability, as well as
consumer expectations. In addition, experts from the areas of
hydrogen and biomass fuels will present a focus on which fuel will
be the most responsible, economical, and environmentally sound for
these new vehicles. To round off the session, the perspective of the
U.S. Department of Energy on these very challenging issues will be
presented.
